Lots of flying, eating and then the rigours of Rigoletto
We are finally on our way for our Odyssean tour of the fleshpots of Europe and to enjoy any gastronomic treats we can pick up along the way.
Our first stop is at Doha airport where we tuck into a delicious bowl of the aptly named foul medames
Better than it looks
Then another slog to Vienna and a seamless trip through customs and taxi to hotel. After a recovery session following this arduous time on the plane we walk to the Opera House
Parliament
Natural History Museum
Things now get serious as we plunge headfirst into our first gourmet meal
Then into the Opera House and following some initial confusion regarding our seat numbers(conveniently omitted from the print at home ticket😳) we settle into our box.The random sitting behind us must have been on day release from the local TB sanitorium as we struggled to hear the music over the incessant hawking and fulminant coughing as she spread her filthy germs over your saintly blogger. The opera was Rigoletto, a sort of a mishmash of Qasimodo meets Dallas. Anyway we managed to stay awake for the majority of the show-the soprano was heroic and was able to still pull off a couple of arias despite multiple stab wounds and being tied up in a sack overnight. One of the characters was called Sparafucile which would make a wonderful name for a new pasta shape or a chicken!
You're looking good. Next time in Doha airport search out the food court and the savoury dosa from the Indian restaurant. Excellent and only 40 QAR with two cups of tea.
