Going mad in Medina

Image
Today we are off to the old capital of Malta,Medina. We catch a bus recommended by google which does not follow the advertised route. There seems to be a certain randomness of these bus routes. Anyway, we arrive unscathed in Medina. Great pair of knockers We were told that we had to do the Medina experience sound and light(son et lumiere)tour so we added on the knights of Malta tour. Following a much delayed movie we were off. Nice pair of shades The movie was "fine". But then we had the piece of resistance where we walked through a dark tunnel to see the preserved bodies of the ancient knights. Take your eyes off my Malteser knight pig dog Frank meets Albrecht Durer This could best be described as grotesque-the old knights were nasty, ugly looking buggers. Emerging into daylight we needed some lunch. All plane sailing today Then we went into the cathedral which was a highlight as there was a student orchestra from Italy, playing. Two bozos in Gozo

Image
We are doing a day tour of the island of Gozo today where we will be rubbing shoulder with Gozitans(?Gozweians,?Gozocastrians), a surly bunch whose main claim to fame  seems to be making hard cheese. We are due to be picked up by our guide,Alfred who has given us suitably vague meeting instructions-"meet at the waterfont"-difficult when you are on a small island! We eventually find Alfred and we are whisked to the Gozo ferry which is full of the usual eurotrash. Don't worry about blocking our view ET We then motor off to the blue grotto(how did they come up with that name-Genius) Then the compulsory cathedral Discarded medical supplies from "cured" pilgrims Then driving around with more sightseeing Then it is time for lunch featuring, you guessed it, rabbit. Then a few more stunning views and then it is back to our digs.

A visit to St Elmo

Image
Today we visit fort St Elmo, the site of the great Maltese bake-off of 1565 between Mr Vallette(hooray) and his arch rival, Suleiman the Magnificent(boo). Breakfast is rabbit porridge with freshly squeezed rabbit juice and rabbit milk' Before walking around the fort we experienced the"Malta Experience" which was fine, if you like to play pick the cliche. We discovered that all Maltesers are brave, strong and courageous, apparently. We then wandered around the fort looking at war artefacts, which actually was good. We found many artefacts of Malteser culture. We even found a Jannisary hiding in a cave as he hadn't been told the siege was over
